Discipline Service Activities

  • I served as the General Chair for the 2015 and 2017 OCWiC Ohio Celebration of Women in Computing Conference, held at the Sawmill Resort. This is a two-day event with more than $50,000 budget and 200 registrations from academia as well as industry. Over the years the Ohio Celebration of Women in Computing Conference has developed in one of the primary regional events targeted at encouraging women participation in computer science, providing a support system to enabled their success and enabling career development through networking opportunities between academia and industry.
  • I reviewed papers for the following conferences SIGCSE The ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education Conference 2004 – 2016; CCSCMW The Consortium for Computing Science in Colleges: Midwest Conference 2007 – 2015; ICMLA The International Conference for Machine Learning Applications 2013 and 2016; ITiCSE The Annual Conference on Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education 2004 and 2015; ICTAI The IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial intelligence 2013 and 2014; and GHC Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing 2015.

University and College Service

  • I chaired the University Curriculum Committee 2015 - 2017.
  • I have served on the University Curriculum Committee since 2011.
  • I also helped with the CourseLeaf Curriculum Management process implementation.
  • I served on the 2015 University Sabbatical/FIL Committee.
  • I served on the Ad-hoc Academic Senate Paperless Committee for the Course Proposal System from 2011 to 2014. 
  • I served on the Distance Education and Ad-hoc Paperless Committee 2011 - 2012.
  • During the Spring 2013 semester, I served on the University Research Council Committee.
  • During the 2011 – 2012 academic year, I participated in the “Ohio Leadership Academy Program”. This program provides leadership development opportunities for faculty seeking entry level academic administrative positions. At the end of the year I presented “Improving Student Retention Using Starfish Retention Solution Software” as the final project for the program. This assignment requires you to spend one day a week during an entire academic year shadowing an administrative person at the guest institution.
  • I served on the YSU Academic Senate from 2005 to 2009.
  • Dean Search Committee for the STEM College – 2015 and 2007.
  • At the college level, I was elected and served on the 2015 College Promotion Committee.
  • In Spring 2009, I served on the Dean’s Reassign Time Committee.

Department Service

  • I chaired the Department Search Committee for the Professor and Chair position.
  • I served as the Graduate Coordinator for our MC&IS program that has more than 50 students since 2015. In this capacity, I work with the Graduate College admission office and with the Center for International Students to coordinate graduate student’s admission, I attend recruitment activities, I review advertising materials, I advise graduate students, and I fill out the Fulfillment of Graduation Requirement sheet for every graduating student.
  • During 2011 – 2013 and 2014 – 2015, I served as the Computer Science Coordinator. In this role, I advised computer science majors and performed senior evaluations for all our computer science graduates.
  • During 2014 – 2015, I have served on the following department committees: Major Curriculum (Chair), Assessment, Honors and Scholarships, Graduate and Department Promotion.
  • During 2011 – 2013, I have served on the following departmental committees: Major Curriculum, Ad-hoc Programming, Ad-Hoc Networking, Department Promotion and Search Committee.
  • During 2009 – 2011, I have served on the following departmental committees: Major Curriculum, Honors and Scholarships, Assessment, Department Promotion and We Are IT!
  • During 2008 – 2009, I have served on the following departmental committees: Major Curriculum, Honors and Scholarships and We Are IT! 
  • I mentor junior faculty in our department.
  • I provide advisement and counseling for students during the registration periods.
